Hi, this is Shirayuki Pochi.

I really wanted to depict the dance from "Kokoro Yohou," so I decided to try my hand at animation production for the first time.

What started as a casual project quickly turned into a serious endeavor, with me drawing everything from yukata and maid outfits to Chinese dresses, and meticulously building up the frames entirely by hand.

This time, it's a "record of the heart forecast" that summarizes the entire process.

① What was the theme?

Heart Forecast 0 was the first hurdle in anime production. This episode explores the source of the feeling that "something's off about the hand movements..."Is.

Using the original creator's short video on heart forecasting as a reference,“"Why do they look different even though they're supposed to be depicting the same movement?"” The theme is to observe the reasons behind this.

This episode covered the absolute basics of anime production."Accuracy of observation"。

Instead of just looking, See correctly, observe in detail, and understand the reasoning behind the movements. This was the starting point for the series, aimed at developing that kind of attitude.

② Early challenges

Initially, I was observing the movements while playing YouTube shorts normally.

However, since short videos are played in a vertical UI, the shortcuts used in regular video players cannot be used.Frame-by-frame playback is not possible. This presented a major constraint.

the result,

  • The trajectory of the hand becomes linear.
  • I can't reproduce the soft wrist movement.
  • Changes in speed and angle cannot be detected.

That problem has remained unresolved for a long time.

The original creator's movements are fluid and circular, using the wrists smoothly, but my animation always ends up being jerky and linear.

The cause of this feeling of unease is, "The observation method itself was wrong." That was the situation.

So, I rewrote the URL of the short video to convert it to a horizontal video, and made it possible to watch it frame by frame on my PC. This allowed me to check the movement frame by frame, and my understanding of the trajectory and angles improved dramatically.

It was the moment when what I had vaguely observed transformed into a movement that I could understand as a concrete trajectory.

③ Improvements I notice now

Looking back on episode 0 of "Heart Forecast," I feel that it was an important step that laid the foundation for the entire series.

What I particularly noticed was“"The accuracy of observation determines the accuracy of the animation."”That's the point.

There were three main areas where we were able to make improvements.

The linear trajectory of the hand has been improved.

By watching it frame by frame, I was able to clearly understand that the original artist's hands were moving in a circular motion.

We were able to specifically understand the changes in angle and velocity.

Subtle changes in angle and variations in speed that were previously missed during normal playback are now clearly visible.

“I've moved beyond just "watching casually."

I've come to realize that you can never grasp the reasoning behind movements just by watching short videos.

By analyzing the movements frame by frame, I've come to understand the "reasons behind the movements," such as "this angle makes it look natural" or "this speed brings out the lightness of the original."

① What was the theme?

Heart Forecast ①: The clapping motion that was full of awkwardness last time,This is a revised version to more closely resemble the original's light and fluid movements. This is what it will be.

This is a detailed analysis of short videos, frame by frame, carefully examining "what's different" and "how to fix it to make it look more natural."

It goes beyond just the trajectory of the applause, delving into the subtle movements of hair, ears, skirts, and tails, making this episode one of the most "movement-focused" in the series.

② Early challenges

The first clapping motion I created had a very linear hand trajectory, which made it look stiff.

The original artist's movements involve using their wrists flexibly to create circular motions, so the difference was immediately obvious.

So this time, we'll convert the short video to a horizontal video and play it frame by frame.Orbit, angle, and timing of when the shaking beginsWe checked it in detail.

Based on those observations, the biggest challenge was meticulously correcting each detail that affects the character's naturalness, such as the sway of the hair, the angle of the ears, the spread of the skirt, the position of the elbows, and the rebound of the tail.

③ Improvements I notice now

Looking back now, the first heart forecast was"Natural movement is made up of a series of small details."I think this episode really made me realize that point.

  • Making the hand's trajectory closer to a circular motion
  • I became aware of the "root cause" of the shaking.
  • I gradually incorporated a sense of weightlessness into the hair and skirt.
  • The elbow position was fixed to stabilize the movement.

As a result of these numerous small adjustments, the final product looks completely different before and after the revisions.

This episode showed such a significant improvement in the naturalness of my movements that I was surprised myself, thinking, "Wow, it's changed this much..."

① What was the theme?

Heart Forecast ② was inspired by the yukata requests we received. This episode featured a new combination: yukata (traditional Japanese summer kimono) and conductor-like movements. This is what it will be.

Unlike everyday clothing, yukata present many unique challenges, such as the weight of the sleeves, the movement of the fabric, and the consistency of the patterns, and I made many new discoveries while drawing them.

The conductor's motion, which involves swinging the arms widely to the side, is a completely different genre from the jumping movements we've seen before, making it a very in-depth study of movement.

② Early challenges

The first thing I did, as usual, was to observe the original creator's movements frame by frame.

However, because yukata are made of heavy fabric and have long sleeves, a problem arose: if the wearer moved in the same way as they would in regular clothing, the movements would appear exaggerated.

Therefore, this time,

Minimize foot movements.

Adjust the focus to showcasing the upper body.

The swaying of the sleeves is depicted with care.

Check each frame to ensure the pattern is not misaligned.

Taking these "constraints unique to yukata" into consideration, we proceeded with fine-tuning the details to make the conductor's motion look natural.

Because the arm movement is so large, I'm paying particular attention to ensuring that the elbow position and hand size don't look distorted.

③ Improvements I notice now

Looking back now, the second heart forecast was "The interpretation of movement changes depending on what you're wearing."This episode really made me realize that point.

Because yukata are made of heavy fabric and have long sleeves, moving around in them with the same tension as you would in regular clothes will feel awkward.

Therefore,

  • The sleeves should sway slightly behind the main body.
  • I draw with attention to even the way the pattern is distorted.
  • Keep the footwear understated and let the gracefulness of the upper body shine through.
  • Adding a slight delay to the tail and hair creates a more natural look.

By making these adjustments one after another, I believe we were able to express "movement that can only be created by wearing a yukata."

It's not just about imitating the original,Design the movements to match the character's personality, clothing, and the world setting. This episode also reinforced that awareness for me.

① What was the theme?

Heart Forecast ③ was inspired by costume requests received on YouTube."Applause motion in a maid outfit (part 2)"This episode will focus on the theme of [topic].

While maid outfits may appear simple at first glance, they require a unique texture that is both light and substantial when movement is involved, and the weight and movement of the fabric are completely different from everyday clothing.

Applause ② Because it's a motion, the nuances of details such as the swaying of hair, ears, and skirt greatly influence the impression of the work. This episode carefully explored the "charm of movement."

② Early challenges

What I felt immediately after starting production was,"Oh, this is a different outfit than usual..."It was the weight of the fabric that felt strange.

A maid outfit skirt can't just spread out; it needs to have a movement where "just a little bit of weight remains" at the end of its sway.

Furthermore, this time I was quite troubled by how much the ears were bouncing around.

The slight movement of the ears amidst the otherwise gentle motion really highlights the character's cuteness, so meticulous adjustments were essential.

Because the motion involved minimal movement, it was necessary to draw the swaying of the hair, skirt, and ears with even more care than usual, making the production process a series of "difficult...but fun!" moments.

③ Improvements I notice now

Looking back now, Heart Forecast ③ was "The more subtle the motion, the more important the details become."This episode really made me realize that point.

How to retain the weight of the fabric

How to incorporate a "very slight delay" in the shaking?

How to bring out the cuteness of a character through the movement of their ears

How to add variety to movements that tend to become monotonous?

By accumulating these subtle nuances, even a quiet clapping motion (②) naturally draws the viewer's attention.

Furthermore, receiving costume requests has been truly encouraging, and this episode has made it even clearer that we will continue with the "style of enjoying changes with each costume" for Kokoro Yoho.

This production process offered many new discoveries, such as noticing the unique weight and nuances of movement in a maid outfit, and how the movement of the ears could bring out the character's charm.

① What was the theme?

Heart Forecast ④ began with a request for Chinese clothing received on YouTube. “"The episode that depicts the heart motion to the very end"This is what it will be.

How to translate the allure of the Chinese dress into movement, where to draw the line between cuteness and sexiness, and the feeling of "seeing the finish line" that is unique to the final stages of a series.

This is a little different from previous heart rate forecasts.A production record made while feeling the "countdown to the end."It is as it is.

② Early challenges

This time, the heart motion is not the type that can be faked with a looping GIF like before.Everything needs to be built up by hand.It was a motion.

The moment I learned that fact, a mix of anxiety—"There's no way I can get away with this..."—and determination—"I'm going to make a proper animation"—welled up inside me at the same time, creating a unique sense of tension.

Furthermore, there were many movements that involved raising and lowering the arms significantly, so understanding the structure of the body was essential. I spent a lot of time checking my own body movements.

"How far can this muscle stretch?" "If I move this part, what else will be affected?" I continued creating while muttering these things to myself, confronting the structure of the human body.

③ Improvements I notice now

Looking back now, the fourth heart forecast was "How to translate the appeal of the costume into movement?"I think this episode strongly emphasized that theme.

The balance between "cuteness" and "sexiness" in Chinese dresses, with their leg slits and the way the neckline moves, is very delicate, and it was really fun to explore that boundary.

How to make the slit look natural

- How much breast movement should be included?

How to express the appeal of the costume through movement

I feel that by repeatedly making these small adjustments, I was able to capture the unique atmosphere of Chinese clothing.

Also, since it was near the end of the series, having a clear goal in sight—how much more I needed to draw to finish—was a big factor.

Each time I completed a part, I felt like the end was getting closer little by little, and that "countdown" became my motivation for creating.

Finally, we moved into the phase of matching the music, and although I was nervous about this first attempt, the presence of the person who made the request gave me the encouragement I needed.

心予報⑤の紹介(この記事)

The final step in connecting the animations into a single, cohesive work.

① How was it integrated?

This heart forecast animation uses the parts that we have drawn so far.Procreate DreamsThen, I carefully arranged them one by one, connecting them in time with the music.

The order in which the parts are combined is based on the criterion of "whether the flow of movement looks natural," and they are arranged in the following order: large motion → swaying parts → changes in facial expression.

When we were practicing the song, what we focused on was,Avoid breaking things down into too many small pieces, which can slow down the process.

If you aim for perfection, it will never end. “"Aiming for a 70% performance."”That was the mindset with which I proceeded.

Because my timing adjustments inevitably fall short of the original, I wanted to at least carefully match the timing of the song transitions, so I made sure to align the breaks precisely.

Don't overcomplicate the details, but be meticulous about the important parts.

After searching for the right balance, it finally took shape as a complete animation.

② The feeling when it was finished

As the countdown near the end began, the feeling of "it's almost over" and "once this is done, I can do what I want to do next" quietly gave me a little push.

especially,I've always wanted to try my hand at Live2D.and,Thanks to the people who left comments and offered support. These two things were the main driving forces behind it.

Requests are truly a source of support for me. For someone like me who struggles to take action, I think I would have given up halfway through without encouragement and comments.

The "Heart Forecast" series was a project that helped me grow.

I have a great sense of accomplishment from having completed everything, but because it was my first animation project, I also have some regrets about things I could have done better, and I definitely want to use those insights in my next creative project.

③ Motivation for the next creative work

This marks the end of the animation production for the Heart Forecast, but next up is...Live2DI will take on this challenge.

I hope to slowly build upon my next creative work while encountering new technologies and worldviews.

Summary: Until the heart forecast ends

The animation production for Kokoro Yohou began with observation, followed by repeated revisions, and progressed while exploring the unique appeal of each costume.

It started with a feeling of "something's not right...", so I carefully analyzed the original's movements frame by frame, and gradually grasped the natural swaying and trajectory.

Yukata, maid outfit, Chinese dress... with each change of outfit, the weight and movement of the fabric changed, and each time I made a new discovery, and with each drawing, my understanding deepened little by little.

In the final heart motion,I hand-drew a total of 19 pieces.I built it up and then carefully connected each frame in Procreate Dreams to match the music.

To avoid getting bogged down in too many small details,“"Aiming for a 70% performance."”That feeling was also an important factor in my decision to proceed.

I wanted to make sure the timing of the song transitions was perfectly aligned, so carefully checking where to cut off each section was a key factor in supporting this production.

And above all, the comments and requests were a real source of support for me.

For someone like me who isn't good at taking action, having people who support me helps me move forward with the production, and the countdown to "almost finished" gives me the push I need.

The "Heart Forecast" series was a project that filled me with a sense of accomplishment, a feeling of having "given it my all."

Because this is my first animation, I have some regrets about what I could have done better, and I definitely want to use those insights in my next creative project.

Animation production comes to a close here, but next up is...Live2DI will take on this challenge.

I would be happy to slowly build upon my next creative work while encountering new technologies and worldviews.

Tools used (iPad Air, Procreate, Apple Pencil, PC)

This time too, my usual partner iPad Air × Procreate × Apple Pencil ProcreatedreamsIt was created using a combination of these elements.

The Apple Pencil makes it easy to draw even in small areas, and I feel it's a really good match for my drawing style.
